I've always drawn inspiration for GHF from the PS2 game Gallop Racer, so I have long wanted to implement a stats style format for horse profiles. I think workouts are the reason many of us have needed to quit or take breaks because they're just impossible to keep up with when you have a reasonable size stable and any sort of life. But without workouts, how do we get a winner? here are the stats I would like to see us use in judging.
Speed - the top speed the horse can reach.
Stamina - the better the stamina, the longer the horse can hold its speed
Determination - will to win
Consistency - low consistency means more off days. high consistency means off days are rare
Training - Training to be completed monthly. horse is fully trained by age four as long as no training sessions are missed. Full training can be achieved earlier depending on the trainer.
Experience - experience stats go up according to the number of races run, the placing and the number of competitors the in the field. for example, the horse runs in a six horse maiden race and wins. That horse will get 7 exp points. The second place horse would get 6, the third place horse 5, and so on. In a four horse race, the winner would get 5 exp points. Basically 1 point per race run, with an extra point for each competitor beaten and a point for their placing.
These stats are all out of a possible 100 - the horse's grade is calculated by averaging these out. The race is still judged by a person based upon stats. It would be up to the judge how heavily they want to weight those stats in a particular race.
Grade one - 91-100
grade two 81-90
grade three 71-80
grade four - 61-70
grade five - 51-60
ungraded 0-50.
Maiden - no wins.
For example:
Speed - 70
Stamina - 52
Determination - 85
Consistency - 98
Training - 100
Experience - 100
Average: 84
The horse is a Grade two
Those top four stats are calculated through breeding by randomizing the parents stats range plus give or take a few so the foal can be better or not as good as its parents. For example, the stallion has a speed of 89. The mare's speed is 82. Randomize a number between 80 and 91, and there's your foal's speed. Created horses stats are fully randomized and this would be done by a staff member.
